The history of the Uniform Museum
Founded by Russian Emperor (Tsar) before the revolution, the "Intendant museum" collection had the regular and the experimental military uniform items of all historical periods, including the Peter the Great, Napoleonic War, Crimean War, Russian-Japanese War and the Great War.
During the revolution, the Bolos captured the Museum and particularly erased the collection, particularry removed to following places:

One part to The MILITARY-HISTORICAL MUSEUM of ARTILLERY, ENGINEER and SIGNAL CORPS, Saint-Petersburg , where the part was moved to Moscow regional historical museum (mostly dedicated to Napoleonic War)

Second part to Cinema and theatre studios, to play the enemies of the revolution in the real rare uniforms... Mostly uniform was erased by the time, the specialists of "shooting effect" and by the moth

One part to the Red Army as the example of the uniform for the special design laboratory, specializing in the uniform creation and testing
The last part of the collection was the base of the uniform Museum-laboratory. Long time the access for this collection was allowed for the military officials only. Since the "Gorby perestroyka" this museum-laboratory has become open for the historians, collectors, re-enactors and museum specialists.
This uniform collection was
completed since 193X by the regular and experimental uniforms of the Red
Army and the Soviet Army.
Uniform Museum has a really large and rare collection of the
Red Army WWII
uniforms. There are also the large section of the foreign armies uniforms
(as the "enemy" during the Cold War period).
Museum has a great collection of the soviet insignias and awards. The medals and the orders are the components of the military uniform.
Unfortunately, museum has not the Russian White Armies M1918-1922 uniforms, and the Red Army uniform M1919-1922 items are the replicas for the military parade of 1967 (you can find it in the private collections in Russia).
This museum is very interesting for the specialists and not only.

In this museum you can receive the knowledge about the 100% original items, like the State samples of the uniforms and awards, and the rules how to wear the soviet medals and orders..
One moment there was an idea that museum should be the branch of the Central Armed Forces Museum, but...
The uniform museum is based on the military unit and the access, however is restricted.
All foreigner visitors have to receive the special permission (ask the specializing military travel agencies)
